Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants

FY09 Deadlines: October 1, 2008 and March 4, 2009.

Since 1993, the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative (AAI) grants have worked to support and promote traditional and contemporary Native American arts in the region. AAI is supported by the Region 2 Arts Council with funding from the McKnight Foundation.

The Advisory Council.
The AAI Advisory Council is comprised of Native American artists and arts appreciators from around the region. Current Council members include

Grants.
There are three categories of grants available from the AAI. Contact R2AC for an application form.

1) Individual Artist Grants
Artists must meet the criteria of the 1990 American Indian Arts & Craft Act.

2) School Residency Grants
Projects must involve Native American artists.

3) Community Project Grants
Projects must include a significant Native American component.

Eligibility.
Anishinaabe grants are only available to Native American artists, community groups, schools and organizations in or near Region 2. The Region 2 area includes Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods and Mahnomen as well as Becker, Roseau, Itasca and Cass counties.

Applicants must at least 18 years of age, be a resident of the State of Minnesota, and must have resided in or near the Region 2 area for at least one year prior to the deadline date of the application.
